Engine / Motor

The engine seems to make some progress, although the Type 4 engines are a real bin of screws. Who allowed the engieenrs at VW to design this :-) / der Motor kommt so langsam zusammen, obwohl der Typ 4 ein echter Schraubenhaufen ist. Ganz am Schluss stellt man dann fest, dass dieses lustige kleine Blech als erstes hätte verbaut werden müssen. Also alles wieder auseinander und nochmal das Ganze. Nun wird es aber.

Off Ebay / Aus Ebay

Ah, it's going to be warm inside: brand new NOS Eberspaecher BA6 heating device off ebay; was a kind of bargain (not exactly cheap :-) / Da wird einem dann warm werden: eine neue Eberspächer BA6 Unterflur Standheizung aus Ebay für 'nen vernünftig kleinen Kurs. 6,9 kW Heizleistung: das hat so mancher nicht zu Hause um sein Haus zu heizen :-)

Visible progress / Sichtbarer Fortschritt

The visible progress is a little slow. The rims are painted and the rear-window is in. The window is a new NOS green tinted glass with heating / Der sichtbare Fortschritt ist eher gering: die Felgen sind lackiert und die Heckscheibe (NOS grün getönt mit Heckscheibenheizung) ist drin.

The interior is now finished / Die iNnenausstattung ist nun komplett fertig inklusive der neu bezogenen Sitze und dem Westfalia-Stool

Interior / Innenaustattung

Two days at the workshop and the interior is done. I'm proud man: nothing left in the boxes and all works fine / Nach zwei Tagen Dauerschrauben ist die Innenaustattung nun drin. Und das Beste: in den Boxen ist nichts mehr übrig: alle Keinteile verbaut !

Roll-Out

Roll-Out? Well almost. It roll-out of the paintshop last Staurday / Roll-Out? Jetzt schon? Naja, fast: er ist zumindest aus den Hallen der Lackiereri raus gerollt. Im vergleich zum Zustand letzten Oktober bin ich echt zufrieden, wie er nun aussieht.

Engine / Motor

The engine gets thrown-together / Der Motor wird so langsam. Der Short Block ist schon zusammen; rechte Seite auch bereits; linke Seite kommt nächste Woche. Ich bin ja mal gespannt, wie er geht: AA-Pistons. Schleicher Nockenwelle und eine Verdichtung von 9,2:1 sollten eigentlich ein paar PS zaubern :-)

Seating / Sitze

The seats are now sewn. I'm only waiting for the seat-het pads to get them assembled / Die Sitzebezüge sind genäht, nun müssen nur noch die Sitzheizungsmatten kommen, dann können die Sitze wieder montiert werden.

White Elephant / Weisser Elephant

Finally some fresh color giving it a 'white elephant' looks. So langsam wird es. Frische Farbe ist drauf und das Ding sieht aus wie ein weisser Elephant :-)

Steam Cleaner Advert / Dampfreiniger Werbung

If you don't have a steam cleaner, get your self one now ! Th ebest thing since the invention of sliced bread. / Falls ihr keinen Dampfreiniger habt, dann holt euch heute noch einen. Das Ding ist das Beste seit der Erfindung von geschnitten Brot !

At the paintshop / Beim Lackierer

Last week, the CE II was transported to the paintshop / Letzte Woche war es soweit: der Bus steht nun beim Lackierer.

It will have the original colour scheme of agate-brown (L86Z) and pastl-white (L90D) / Er wird die originale Farbkombination von achatbraun (L86Z) und pastellweiss (L90D) bekommen.

Some new Paint / Neue Farbe

I was in desperate need for some new paint, so the interior is now painted / Ich musste nun endlich mal ein paar Erfolgserlebnisse haben und deshalb ist nun der Inneraum in neue Farbe getacuht.

Nosebear / Nasenbär

We like the nosebear look at lot, so we did buy some parts and modified the front-end / da uns der Nasenbären Look sehr gut gefällt haben wir die Teile dazu gekauft un die Front modifiziert. Hört sich einfacher an als es war. Das Prallblech muss dazu in der Mitte heraus getrennt werden und die gesamte Konstruktion nachgebaut werden. 2 Tage Arbeit !

Driver Side / Fussraum

Soem new sheet metal on the driver side / Der Fussraum beim Fahrer ist nun auch gemacht. Nicht schön aber besser als ein Rostloch.

New Home / Zeitweiliges, neues zu Hause

The Westy found temporarily a new home in the garage of my friend. The good thing (besides the huge garage) is, that I have template to copy from: his orange 1979 westy.
Der Bus hat nun zeitweilig ein neues zu Hause in der Garage eines Freundes. Das Beste daran (neben der grossen Garage) ist die Verfügbarkeit einer 1:1 Vorlage zum Abschauen: sein 1979er Wetsfalia Helsinki.

A new Toy arrives

This is my latest toy: a 1978 Westfalia Champagne Edition II T2 Bus

This means it is one of only about 50 which were built for the US market in between Jan 1978 and March 1978. It has quite a bunch of unique stuff compared to regular
T2s. The most remarkable is, that the dashboard is completely brown instead of black. In addition, it features the following goodies:
- tinted glass
- chrome trim for window rubber (just as the silberfish)
- Westfalia Berlin interior
- front window with blue upper area
- under floor gastank (just like the later T3 Westfalias)
- two tone paint: pastell-white (L90D) and agate-brown (L86Z; achat-braun)
- injection engine incl. catalysator
- heatable rear window

Mine is featured with a lot more goodies:
- air condition !
- cruise control !
- interval wipers
- tow-bar coupling

Ours is loaded with all of the complete Westfalia options. The previous owner didn't save one little bit out. Full-options man.

We got it off ebay, just for kicks and luckily (or unluckily) we won the auction. So on we went two days later towards northern Germany to pick the machine up. We arrived at 1:00 a.m. sunday morning and trailered it home. On sunday morning in bright sun, we did discover the whole desaster. It was clear, that getting it back on the road isn't just three days of vacataion and just cleaning it up. At daylight, all looked much more like a full-restoration. So it went on to the body shop.
